Fable (and The Lost Chapters): I had heard about this game before. Called ‘Project Ego’, it was supposed to be a game where you could do anything. Well, maybe not everything, but a lot more than you could do in most games at the time. The idea of not being the hero, but the asshole, was appealing. Not because I wanted to be evil in the game, but because it meant being good was a choice. You weren’t forced into the role of nice guy, and it seemed that being one would put you at an actual disadvantage.
The finished game wasn’t exactly what they claimed it to be, but it was damn close, and damn fun. The little lessons taught throughout the game were interesting, and I still remember the fable of the Hobbe that tried to be human. The combat was satisfying, and I believe you could kick the bandits and such after they died, which was amusing. The story was alright, I’ve heard better and much, much worse. It was one of the first games I played that changing your clothing actually showed on your character, not just a stat change, and that was very cool. A lot of the time I walked around dressed like death, but I was still super nice.
I can’t remember all of it. I started playing it a couple of days ago again, but then it froze. So, I’m going to wait for the anniversary edition, which I can’t wait for.
I’ll get on to Fable 2 and 3 later. Quick preview: Loved 2. Hated 3.
